A little good press

Posted by Eric On May - 7 - 2010

In our first press, at least that I know about ;D, Stage’D received a very nice write-up from edu blogger iLearn Technology.

She highlighted the potential Stage’D has for use in classroom projects, which is great! We’ve always had interested responses from teachers that we’ve talked to about Stage’D, but it was really great to hear such an extensive list of projects that Stage’D could be used for.

For any teachers (or students) in the audience, if you have ideas for how Stage’D could be used in classroom projects, or if you have ideas for features that you’d like to see in Stage’D that would make it more fun, let us know in the comments!

And don’t forget to read the article here.

What a fabulous idea! Couldn’t wait to try it.

I tried to use Stage’d but it won’t recognize that I”ve installed the unity web player – it’s stuck on the page advising me to ‘install now’. Is that bc I’m on a mac?

Am I doing something wrong? H-e-e-l-p!

Hmmmm, that’s not good. It shouldn’t be because you’re on a mac, Stage’D was mostly made on a mac actually :D .

Did you install the web player just for Stage’D? or did you already have it installed?

    Hello Eric,

I’m part of the SC 21 program in the Napa Valley Unified School District. I teach a combined English/History course in a computer project-based learning classroom.

This product is right up our alley. It could be used, for instance, to create comics of stories that we read, or to create comics about areas that we study. I appreciate the fact that it gives students a cognitive challenge beyond typical think and respond (written activities and tests) and that it taps into multiple intelligences (spatial in particular) that are at other times neglected in the classroom. Plus, it’s just nifty, and students dig “nifty.”

    As for some suggestions:

    1. It would be nice if there were a way for users to create backgrounds and models to increase the potential applications.

    2. I’m not sure if I just didn’t figure it out, but it seemed like you could only create one scene. Is there a way to create a panel of scenes linked together?

Apparently we’re heading down the hill for BBQ action now, but should I have more feedback, I’ll send it your way.

      Hi Michael,

      Thanks for the comments!

We’ve had a bunch of requests for user uploaded backgrounds, that is definitely in the works.

At the moment it is only possible to create a single scene, so not to worry you didn’t miss it.

Out of curiosity, do you have a preference for which feature you’d like to see first? User uploaded backgrounds? or Multiple scenes?

Glad you’re enjoying it, and to hear that it’s useful. Any additional feedback/ideas are definitely welcome.

        Hi,

I had the same question as the others, and multiple scenes would be my first choice. Also, telling people they can only create one panel would be a timesaver.

The HINTS were helpful, but I had to play around and still had unanswered questions. A FAQ or Troubleshooting section or link where users could teach each other while you guys keep up the creative work would be good. For example, I could get 2 actors with 2 different dialogs on one scene, but then only the second actor with the first one’s dialog were saved. Weird.

What is Stage'D?

Stage'd is a digital toy for creating animated comics.

We want to make telling your stories easier. Being big comic and animation nerds ourselves we decided one fateful night to have a go at creating a mash-up.

Stage'D is definitely a work-in-progress, but already there's lots of fun to be had. You can pick characters and choose costumes for them. Then you can pick from a library of animations for them to perform, and don't forget to give'em some dialog! Pick some scenery and you officially have a comic, easy as that.

All that's left is to share it with the world. When you've saved your comic you can e-mail it to your friends, or just take the link and share it yourself on Facebook, Twitter or anyplace else!

Don't forget to check in once in a while, we're adding new things all the time. You can follow the latest Stage'D happenings with our RSS feed, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Take a look around, make a comic or five and enjoy!
